    Kathleen Martini - President & Founder '24

    Kathleen is the president of Nashville Edelweiss Gemeinschaft and a very active member of the German-American community nationally and internationally. Kathleen’s grandparents hail from the Batschka region of the former Yugoslavia, where German speakers settled in the 1700s and remained until the mid-1900s. She grew up dancing for the Trenton Donauschwaben club and attending events through the Landesverband der Donauschwaben USA, of which she is the current Landesjugendleiterin. Prior to moving to Nashville, Kathleen was an assistant leader of the Cleveland Donauschwaben Jugendgruppe, which completed a two-week Europe performance tour in summer 2024. Kathleen also participates in the Bavarian culture as a member of three Gauverband Nordamerika Vereine and has competed in the Einzel- and Gruppenpreisplatteln events in regional and national competitions. Outside of the Gemeinschaft, Kathleen is a transactional attorney and enjoys crocheting, singing, martial arts, and learning to fly small aircraft.

    Joseph Bican - Vice President '25

    Joseph embodies the vibrant spirit of German culture and the lightheartedness of a true friend. With a contagious sense of humor and an unwavering "yes, and" attitude, he brings a refreshing energy to every board meeting and elevates the Gemeinschaft's endeavors. Joseph's passion for all things German runs deep.  His grandmother's German heritage laid the foundation for his deep appreciation, and a childhood friendship solidified his bond with the country. His love for the culture was further solidified during his decade-long membership with the Donauschwaben of Cleveland. As a dedicated member, he traveled across the country, sharing his passion by teaching traditional folk dances. Beyond his cultural pursuits, Joseph is a devoted and fun-loving father. He approaches life with an infectious enthusiasm, always seeking to infuse joy into every moment. Joseph's dedication, coupled with his unwavering positivity, makes him an invaluable asset to the organization. He is the embodiment of Gemütlichkeit, fostering camaraderie in the lives of those around him.

    Madison McDonald - Secretary & Founder '24

    Madison brings a lifelong passion for art, design, and German culture to her role as Secretary. Although born in California, she spent the first 3 years of her life in Bad Windsheim, Germany, where her father was stationed with the US Army. Her family met the Niedenzus and a lifelong bond was created. These formative years sparked a deep connection to Germany, nurtured by yearly visits with her family friends. Over the years Madison has studied many traditional and digital arts. She received her BFA in Photography and Digital Imaging and has spent over 15 years helping small businesses build their brand and digital presence. Madison currently works as the Marketing Coordinator at Bavarian Bierhaus, where her professional experience and passion for German culture can shine. After decades of moving around, Madison found solace in Nashville where she can share her passion for German culture within the Gemeinschaft. In her free time, Madison loves sewing and crafting original costumes (including her own Dirndls), and attending historical and cultural events.

    Jocelyn Freimuth - Treasurer '25

    Jocelyn is proud to come from a long line of German farmer immigrants who settled in the Midwest generations ago. Her family’s strong work ethic and heritage have shaped her journey from farming roots to becoming a leader in the healthcare field. Today, she is deeply involved in advancing communities through service on numerous boards and organizations — from local initiatives to international leadership societies.

    Traveling to Germany each year has become a personal tradition, where Jocelyn feels most connected to her family’s origins. She especially enjoys participating in cultural events and finds that her time in Germany is a meaningful reminder of her deeply rooted heritage. Discovering the Nashville German Club has given Jocelyn a way to celebrate that same sense of family and belonging locally — in the true spirit of Gemeinschaft — while sharing her culture and passion for community with others.

    Joe McCarrol - Founder '24

    Meet Joe McCarrol, a dedicated hospitality professional with a deep love for all things German. In 2025 Joe stepped down as Vice President to fulfill his dream of acquiring his German citizenship. While he spent his formative years in Mount Juliet, he now resides in Bad Salzschlirf, a charming town near Fulda where his mother's family still lives. With over 15 years of experience in business management, including his previous role as Chief Operating Officer for Bavarian Bierhaus, Joe brings a unique blend of German appreciation and hospitality expertise to the table. He's passionate about fostering Gemütlichkeit in the workplace, creating a warm and welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. When not immersed in the world of hospitality, Joe can be found exploring the world and gaining many new experiences. He's a dedicated foodie with a special fondness for German cuisine, natürlich! We wish Joe all the best in his grand adventures, and thank him for his dedicated work in helping establish what the Gemeinshcaft is today!
